In this presentation, we will briefly define Content-Based Instruction and review common issues in the language classroom that can be resolved by using authentic materials. We’ll then look at websites that offer free resources of short videos, news clips, short articles, poetry, short stories, political ads, infographics, and more. After finding resources, we’ll talk about how to determine the CEFR level of the material and how to create activities using the authentic texts. We’ll also explore ways to find sites that are similar to your favorites and sites that showcase award-winning content. Come prepared to share your favorite websites and sources of authentic materials.

Many people, including Americans, would be surprised to hear that equal rights for women are not enshrined in the U.S Constitution. The Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) was designed to fill that gap by guaranteeing equal legal rights for all Americans regardless of gender. Although Congress passed the amendment in 1972, it fell short of the necessary ratifications by state legislatures. Now, a new movement is reviving the fight – lawyer and activist Kate Kelly is one of the people leading the charge. Join us as we talk to Kate about the history and rebirth of the campaign for women’s rights in the United States.
